FAQ's
What should I expect from my first visit to The Cole Practice?
All patients under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
The consultation will help the osteopath to gain a better understanding of you as an individual. You will be asked to undress to your underwear for a full postural assessment to be carried out. You will then be asked to perform some movements to help the osteopath reach a diagnosis and formulate a treatment plan.
Sometimes other tests are also carried out such as taking blood pressure or checking reflexes. If we are concerned that there may be a more serious underlying condition that is not due to a musculo-skeletal cause then we will refer you to your GP or hospital for further investigations.
What should I wear?
Should you wish to you can bring some shorts or leggings and a vest top for your comfort although this is not essential.
Will it hurt?
Following treatment you may experience mild discomfort but in most cases this will resolve within 24 hours and is part of the normal healing process.
It is not advisable to partake in strenuous exercise for 1-2 days post treatment to give the tissues time to settle down.
How many treatments will I need?
It is also advisable to undertake “maintenance” visits every 3-6 months to enable us to ensure that the previous problem is contained and prevented from returning. After all prevention is better than cure!
